YouthPort proudly supports “Juneteenth – A Celebration of Freedom”

Juneteenth is the oldest, nationally celebrated commemoration of the cessation of African slavery in the United States.  From its origination in Galveston, Texas in 1865, June 19th or “Juneteenth”  is observed as the official African American Emancipation Day.  It is a very relevant and respected cultural observance both in the United States and beyond.

The African American History Museum of Iowa is hosting “A Celebration of Freedom” to commemorate this day of jubilation on June 20th and  June 21st  from 10:00 am through 4:00 pm.
