YouthPort will host a first of its kind book signing at the Polk Alternative Education Center Tuesday, March 18, from 5:30-6:30 pm. YouthPort is an innovative partnership between Tanager Place, Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids, and Young Parents Network (YPN).
Fourth and fifth grade members of the Boys & Girls Clubs at Polk unit recently discovered the building blocks of healthy youth development over a six-session program provided by YPN. Club members wrote and illustrated a comic book titled, “The Boys & Girls Club Conquers the 8 Assets.” At the March 18th event, Club members will sign copies of the comic book while other club members perform a song about the 8 Assets. Parents of the youth are invited to see the great work their children are doing and learn what they have discovered about Asset Development. There will also be a presentation on the Power of One (what you as an individual can do to promote Asset Development).
Young Parents Network will host a book give-away in partnership with the Cedar Rapids Public Library to promote literacy and assess neighborhood needs, all children aged birth-12 will receive a book to take home. Tanager Place will have a booth at the event promoting the programs they offer to support the neighborhood families.
