Giving Back to a Supportive Community

“No act of kindness, however small is ever wasted”

-Aesop

Throughout the year, activities at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids focus on giving back to the community as a way of saying “thank you” for all they do to help the Club be available for school age kids every day! The Club’s biggest project is Random Acts of Kindness Day, which takes place a couple of times during the year. This is a day when Club members and staff drive all over Cedar Rapids and stop to do good deeds for the people of Cedar Rapids.

Club members visit the stores, malls and businesses throughout Cedar Rapids performing Random Acts of Kindness.  These random acts may include taping a couple of quarters to a washing machine at a laundry mat, paying for someone’s meal at a fast food drive through, giving a small gift to someone at the mall or delivering flowers to the sick. Club members also make sure to stop at the Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments to say thank you for keeping us safe.

To prepare for Random Acts of Kindness Day, Middle School Club members hold bake sales and typically raise $300 – $400 to help cover the costs of these random acts of kindness. Random Acts of Kindness Day teaches Club members the value of giving back to the community. This day is our way of saying “Thank You” to the community for supporting the Club throughout the year.
